Smugglers Beach / Bass River Beach
Smugglers Beach, officially known as Bass River Beach, is a popular family beach located at the mouth of the Bass River in South Yarmouth, MA. Its location provides both a great view of boats entering and exiting the river and a wide sandy shoreline on Nantucket Sound.

Parking Information

  • Address: 220 South Street, South Yarmouth, MA 02664.
  • Daily Fee: A daily parking pass costs $25 during the summer season.
  • Weekly/Seasonal Passes: Weekly passes for $100 and seasonal passes (with different rates for residents and non-residents) are also available and are valid at all Yarmouth public beaches.
  • Hours: Parking is enforced from the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, generally from 8 AM to 5 PM.
  • Boat Trailer Parking: There is a separate, dedicated parking lot and boat ramp for vehicles with boat trailers.

Facilities and Amenities

  • Lifeguards: Lifeguards are on duty during the summer season.
  • Restrooms & Showers: The beach has full restroom facilities and outdoor showers.
  • Food: A snack bar is available, with picnic tables for convenience.
  • Recreation: There is a fishing pier, and volleyball nets are often set up. The calm waters make it an excellent spot for swimming, fishing, and boating.
  • Accessibility: The beach has solid-surface walkways from the parking lot to the beach.

Rules and Regulations

  • Dogs: Dogs are not allowed on the beach from the Friday before Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
  • Prohibited Items: Glass containers and alcohol are not permitted.
  • Swimming: Swimming is only allowed in designated areas.
