Mashpee-Wakeby Pond Beach
Mashpee-Wakeby Pond is a large freshwater pond that straddles the border of Mashpee and Sandwich. In Sandwich, the public access point to Wakeby Pond is through the Ryder Conservation Land at Wakeby Pond, located off South Sandwich Road.

Here's what you need to know about the beach area at Ryder Conservation Land:

  • Description: It features a large sandy beach area on Wakeby Pond, a beautiful freshwater pond. It's often described as a peaceful spot, a little off the beaten path, perfect for escaping crowds and relaxing.
  • Activities: The roped-off swimming area is ideal for small children due to its calm, warm freshwater. Kayakers and paddleboarders will enjoy exploring the massive pond. The surrounding conservation land also offers walking trails.
  • Facilities:
  • Restrooms: Available (listed as "Beige" restrooms).
  • Picnic Area: There are picnic areas.
  • Playground: A playground is available for children.
  • Lifeguards: Lifeguards are typically on duty during the summer season, usually from the third Saturday in June through Labor Day, with gates closing shortly after lifeguards leave at 4 PM.
  • Fishing: Fishing is permitted.

Parking Information:

  • Resident Parking Only: Parking at Wakeby Lake at Ryder Conservation is limited to Sandwich resident passholders only during the summer season (typically Memorial Day to Labor Day, 9 AM to 5 PM).
  • Beach Sticker Required: A Sandwich beach pass is required to park. The cost for a first vehicle resident sticker is $35 for the season (valid for all Sandwich beaches, plus Sandy Neck).
  • Non-Resident Access: Non-resident passes are not valid for Wakeby Lake at Ryder Conservation.
  • Gates: The main access road at Ryder Conservation Lands on South Sandwich Road opens daily at 10:00 AM and closes at 6:00 PM during the summer season. The entire property is generally open during daylight hours (half an hour before sunrise to 10:00 PM).
  • Limited Spaces: Parking is limited, so arriving early is advisable, especially during peak season.
  • Cotuit Road Access: There is another parking access on Cotuit Road, which is strictly maintained for pet walkers and trail walkers. Parking in this lot is limited to 30 minutes, and longer parking for group hikes requires a permit from the Natural Resources Department.

In summary, Ryder Conservation Land at Wakeby Pond offers a lovely freshwater beach experience with amenities, but access to the parking lot during the summer season is restricted to Sandwich residents with a valid beach sticker.
