Lecounts Hollow Beach, also known as Maguire's Landing, is a stunning ocean-side beach in Wellfleet, MA. It's renowned for its wide, sandy shoreline, large waves perfect for surfing, and dramatic 75-foot sand dunes that provide a breathtaking backdrop. Access to the beach from the parking lot involves a steep, sandy walkway, which can be a bit challenging but is well worth it for the beautiful views and peaceful atmosphere.
Parking Information:
- Permit Required: Parking permits are required at Lecounts Hollow Beach from 9 AM to 5 PM, from the third Saturday in June to Labor Day.
- Wellfleet Beach Sticker: You'll need a Wellfleet Beach Sticker to park. These can be obtained at the Beach Office by the Wellfleet Town Pier. Proof of stay in Wellfleet (rental or residential) and valid vehicle registration are required.
- Resident vs. Visitor: During the summer season (9 AM - 5 PM), the parking lot is primarily reserved for Wellfleet residents. Some sources indicate that visitor stickers may not grant access to Lecounts Hollow, or that visitor parking is very limited. It's strongly advised for non-residents to check the most current Wellfleet beach regulations before planning their visit.
- Off-Season/Off-Hours: Outside the summer season (before the third Saturday in June and after Labor Day), and outside the 9 AM - 5 PM hours, parking is generally first-come, first-served and free.
- Limited Spaces: The parking lot, while described as large by some, can still fill up quickly during busy summer days. Arriving early is always a good strategy.
- Overflow/Alternatives: If the Lecounts Hollow lot is full, you might consider trying other Wellfleet ocean-side beaches like White Crest Beach, Cahoon Hollow, or Newcomb Hollow, though they also have their own parking regulations and fees.
Facilities and Amenities at Lecounts Hollow Beach:
- Lifeguards: Yes, seasonal lifeguards are on duty.
- Restrooms: Seasonal restroom facilities are available in the parking lot area at the top of the dune.
- Food Truck: A food truck, "Solace," sometimes provides food options during the summer months.
- No Showers: There are no showers on site.
- Dogs: Dogs are generally allowed with a leash outside of lifeguard-protected areas and during certain hours in season (typically not allowed in lifeguard-protected areas between 9 AM and 5 PM).
- Bonfires: Bonfires are allowed with a permit, which can be obtained at the Wellfleet beach sticker office.
Lecounts Hollow Beach is often praised for its cleanliness and less commercialized feel, offering a more natural Cape Cod beach experience.
