Kalmus Beach
Kalmus Beach, also known as Kalmus Park Beach, is a popular destination in Hyannis, MA, located at the south end of Ocean Street. It is a large sandy beach on Nantucket Sound known for its consistently strong breezes, which make it a top spot for windsurfing and kiteboarding on the East Coast.

Parking Information:

  • Daily Fee: A daily parking fee of $25 is charged at the municipal parking lot during the summer season.
  • Weekly/Seasonal Passes: The town of Barnstable offers weekly and seasonal parking permits that are valid at Kalmus Beach and other select Barnstable beaches. A non-resident weekly permit is $110, while a non-resident seasonal permit is $250 (prices are subject to change).
  • Parking Availability: The parking lot has over 300 spaces, but it can fill up quickly on busy summer days, so arriving early is recommended.
  • No Parking on Street: Parking along Ocean View Drive is prohibited and subject to fines and towing.

Facilities and Amenities:

  • Lifeguards: Lifeguards are on duty during the summer season.
  • Restrooms & Showers: The beach has a pavilion with a bathhouse, restrooms, and outdoor showers.
  • Snack Bar: A snack bar is available during the summer months.
  • Accessibility: The beach has some accessibility features, including a wooden path, but accessibility to the high tide level may be limited. Beach wheelchairs are also available.
  • Separate Zones: The beach is divided into two sections by a jetty: one for swimming and a separate, windy area for windsurfing and kiteboarding.

Other Important Information:

  • Dogs: Dogs are prohibited from the beach from May 15 to September 15.
  • Activities: Besides windsurfing and swimming, the beach is a great spot to watch the ferries and boats go in and out of Hyannis Harbor.
