Bucks Pond Beach
This fresh water beach is a great place to rinse the salt off after a day at an ocean beach, but be advised there are no restrooms or lifeguards.

Bucks Pond Beach in Harwich is a quiet freshwater retreat, but it is important to distinguish between the limited public access and the private association areas. The beach area located specifically off Clearwater Drive is generally considered a private access point for the surrounding Great Sand Lakes association members rather than a public town beach.

  • Atmosphere and Water: This freshwater pond is known for its clear, calm, and warm water, making it a "hidden gem" for those looking to escape the salt and crowds of the ocean beaches. It is particularly popular for swimming, fishing, and non-motorized boating like kayaking or paddleboarding.
  • Amenities: This is a primitive beach area with no public restrooms, changing facilities, or lifeguards on duty. Visitors should plan to carry in and carry out all belongings and trash.
  • Regulations: To protect the pond's environment and the endangered plant species found along its shores, there are strict rules against power-loading boats. Additionally, a 6-mile-per-hour speed limit is enforced for all motorized vessels.

Parking and Access

Parking at Bucks Pond is extremely limited and strictly regulated, especially during the summer season.

  • Public Access: The designated public entrance is located at the end of Bucks Pond Road (not Clearwater Drive). This entrance provides a small path tucked between residential houses leading to a sandy beach area.
  • Parking Capacity: The public lot is one of the smallest in Harwich, with space for only two cars.
  • Sticker Requirements: From Memorial Day through Labor Day, a valid Harwich town beach sticker is required to park at the Bucks Pond Road entrance. Daily passes are not sold for this location; you must have a resident, seasonal, or weekly sticker.
  • Clearwater Drive Access: The beach access points off Clearwater Drive are private and intended for local residents or association members. Unauthorized parking on these residential side streets is typically prohibited and subject to towing.
