Unlike its neighbor, Saquatucket Harbor as we know it is a relatively modern creation. For a long time, the area was largely marshland and tidal creeks. It wasn't until the mid-1960s that the town of Harwich undertook a massive dredging project to create a deep-water municipal marina.

The goal was simple but ambitious: create a space that could accommodate both the growing interest in recreational boating and the town’s storied commercial fishing fleet.

Saquatucket is unique because it balances three distinct worlds perfectly:
